In Rec-Ball we are all here to have fun. We don't want anyone to feel bad or be singled out, do we? We are all friends, no matter what colour armband we wear. The idea behind politically correct language is not to offend or to make people feel different from everyone else. Also, you want to take all the negative aspects of paintball and make them positive.
ACCURACY CHALLENGED MARKER:
Used to blame the bad shooting on the equipment and not the shooter, thereby eliminating all blame and thus not causing the shooter to feel badly.
ACHIEVE A DEFICIENCY:
Failure to meet the desired objective given to you, especially when you tried so very hard. It still allows you to "achieve" something and thereby not feel as if you had failed entirely.
AGGRESSIVE DEPARTURE:
Run away. Usually reserved for a single participant.
ALTERNATE TACTICAL DIRECTION:
A retreat. Usually reserved for a team or a number of participants.
ALTERNATE TEAM PARTICIPANT:
Member of the opposing team, used primarily because the terms opposition, or enemy, are too harsh of a designation and are combative and competitive in nature.
ALTERNATIVELY EQUIPPED PARTICIPANT:
A participant who is either using field rental equipment or one who is using a pump or stockgun in a semi game.
ALTERNATIVELY FORTUNED PARTICIPANT/TEAM:
Losers.
ALTERNATIVELY MANUFACTURED PAINT:
Bad paint.
ANIMATED DISCUSSION:
An argument.
CEREBRALLY CHALLENGED PARTICIPANT:
A twit.
ECONOMICALLY MOTIVATED PARTICIPANT:
A field owner or retailer, someone in the paintball industry. You see, we are all participants and to differentiate between players and the industry will only create a rift between them.
EQUIPMENTISM:
The mistaken belief that a participant's abilities can be judged by the equipment they wear and the marker they use.
ETHICALLY DISORIENTED BEHAVIOUR:
Cheating.
EXPERIENTIALLY ENHANCED PARTICIPANT:
An experienced participant.
EXPERIENTIALLY DISADVANTAGED PARTICIPANT:
A newbie.
GUIDANCE PARTICIPANT:
A referee. The term referee or judge gives the impression that players have to be watched closely because they are naturally devious and they will engage in ethically disoriented activities by default, if they are not kept in the constant scrutiny of officials.
HOPPERISM:
The mistaken belief that the size of the hopper is directly proportional to a player's potential effectiveness in a game.
IMPERMANENTLY FUNCTION DENIED:
Not working. This is to give the impression that vital equipment, while not working, is not in this condition permanently. This removes the stress the participant may feel when equipment does not perform to expectations, they can take heart that it is simply a temporary inconvenience.
INACCURATELY INFORMED PERSON:
A know-it-all. This makes the assumption that the person's opinions, which are wrong, were a result of being purposely misinformed.
MOMENTARY TACTICAL INCONVENIENCE:
A situation where things are going against an individual, usually a no-win situation. The expression is used in oder to show that it is obviously for no fault of their own and it is a momentary thing. This way they do not feel trapped, or have no choices.
NON-GOAL ORIENTED:
This is used to describe those participants who can never seem to do anything right. They get eliminated, every game. They never eliminate anyone, they never get the flag. In order not to single them out, as useless wastes of skin, we simply imply that they are just out to have fun and all the rest (flag grabs, eliminations, etc) is not important to them.
PAINTISM:
The movement some economically motivated participants follow where other participants are not permitted to bring paint to the field they operate.
PARTICIPANT:
Everyone who plays the sport or works in a supportive role in the paintball industry. If we are all participants, then there will be no "us against them" mentalities between industry and players.
PIGMENTALLY AGGRESSIVE PARTICIPANT:
A hoser.
PROGRESSIVE TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE:
Pump class. Sounds a lot better, eh?
RAISED TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE:
Semi/open class, this is used to show the value of all classes of paintball.
RESURGENT TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE:
Stock class. Like the other Challenges, this class has been given an interesting and non-judgemental name. All are challenges in their own right and one is not better than the other.
SEASONAL VICTIM:
Those players who live in areas where they have snow and really cold weather in the winter and therefore are unable to play all year round. It is not from personal choice and the participant has no control and therefore cannot be ridiculed for it. This term is used so it does not seem like players who CAN play all year round are "thumbing their noses" at those who cannot.
TACTICAL ERROR:
A mistake, a really bad mistake.
TECHNOLOGISM:
The belief that technology will make you a better player. That somehow technology is a substitute for skill.
TEMPORARILY EXCLUDED:
Eliminated from play. Used to indicate that the eliminated participant is not permanently excluded, but only for the duration of the game in progress.
TEMPORARY PARTICIPANT:
Those who have not been eliminated from play. This designation portrays the inevitability of a participant's elimination from the game and makes those who have been eliminated feel that their elimination was not due to anything they did wrong.
TOURNAMENT WEENIE:
A participant who plays in tournaments. This term may not appear PC and it isn't. Who cares if you hurt THEIR feelings?
WEATHER PARTICULAR PARTICIPANT:
A participant who only plays during good weather, never when it is cold, or rainy. Use these terms and foster a better feeling and understanding for all to enjoy. Let's try to promote a non-confrontational, non judgemental atmosphere.
